54 Firestone Roof and aesthetics
After reviewing all the roof line options, we feel that the flat roof, although we love the clean lines is not tying the property together in a cohesive way visually. We would like to go back to your previous version, but would love for you to take a look at these for reference (I hate when people do this to me, butt it works). We have been looking at the Bates Masi website. They often design using multiple structures. The best way for us to articulate what we like is to capture the pieces from his work that we like. However, what we do not like is the over use of dark wood on the interior and he tends to go overboard with a masculine design on the exterior. We do like a wood roof and the modern shingle effect on the exterior, but since the cottage is already shingled we can continue that same look. We believe the GENIUS-LOCI, and the UNDERHILL are the best representation of what you were trying to get across to us.

This design seems to lend itself most to our project. Its even facing the correct direction and has a similar layout. We know you presented a similar idea two versions back, but I think we needed to see all the options to land on this. We think if we were to clad the ceiling with white wood, the same as we did in the cottage, we would be able to get a similar aesthetic and keep the modern cottage type of feel we will have going on in the Master. This can also inform the rest of the cottage. And, let’s call this a cottage because I think it will be better for the application process as well—it is two cottages but together.

Cantilever stairs
The cantilever stairs should be functional yet interesting, but not too crazy.
We already have these and steeper ones that work well on hills. For the basement area perhaps we do moss.

We can gently slop from the basement to the front yard area using irregular stones. or horizontal stones. I am not a fan of railroad ties, bad for the environment.
